Funeral services for Beulah Giles, 75, of Malvern, Iowa, were said June 13 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston by the Rev. Rick Senner. Burial was in the Lake Preston City Cemetery. Giles died June 9, 1998, at the home of Don and Dee Johnson of Tabor, Iowa, following an extended illness. She was born Aug. 19, 1922, to John O. Olson and Ida (Jensen) Olson at Lake Preston. She was a graduate of Lake Preston High School and General Beadle Teachers College in Madison. She also graduated from Huron College and Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., where she earned a master's degree in education. She married Eugene Giles in April of 1944 at Watertown. Giles was a member of the Lake Preston Lutheran Church, Mary's Quilting Circle, Lutheran Ladies Circle, Altar Guild, Delta Kappa Sorority and educational reading associations in Iowa, Illinois, and Idaho. She taught school in Oldham, Erwin, Clear Lake and De Smet and Keokuk, Iowa, and Pocatello, Idaho. Survivors include two daughters, Delores Johnson of Malvern, Iowa, and Rosalyn Lowder of Lake Preston; three sons, Curtis of Kennewick, Wash., Derald of Union Mills, Ind., and Del of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Ruby Lowe of Sioux Falls, Muriel Warner of Grass Valley, Calif., and Charlotte Smith of Lake Preston; three brothers, Orville of Madison, Wallace of Grass Valley, Calif., and Robert of Lake Preston; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother Arvid; and a sister, Evelyn Carlson. The Johnson Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston, assisted by the Crawford Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
