Carl was born in Denton County, December 11,1903 and moved with his parents, the late W.C. and Mamie Ellen Skiles Carlton to Stamford in 1914. He married Ruth Mae Moore June 21, 1925 in Lubbock, TX.
Carl was a retired farmer and a former bookkeeper at Ericksdahl Gin in the Ericksdahl Community east of Stamford, TX. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Stamford.
He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters and 1 grandson - Robert Carlton Bird.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Carlton of Stamford; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy W. and Paula Vaden Carlton of Granbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Robert Bird of Stamford; 2 sisters - Ruby Carlton McCafferty of Haskell, TX and Marjorie Carlton Rush of Casa Grande, AR; 2 brothers - Norman Carlton of Hamlin and J.E. "Chub" Carlton of Lake Stamford, TX. 3 grandsons- Kirk Carlton of Plano, Paul Carlton of Stephenville, and Rob Bird of Stanton; and a grand daughter Vicky Anne Bird Moreno of Stamford. 8 great grand children - Shawn Carlton of Stephenville, Dane and David Carlton of Plano, Adrian and Chris Moreno of Stamford, Lindsey and Christi Carlton of Stephenville, and Kyli Bird of Stanton.
Pallbearers were Kirk Carlton, Paul Carlton, Rob Bird, Larry Moreno Jr., Darryl Schoonmaker, & Hollis Muehlstein.
