JACOB JOHANN OGLINE, S/o Phillip J & Catherine MILLER-OGLINE.

Jacob and Mary Catherine HILDEBRAN united in 1803 being blessed with 11 healthy out of 15 known children.

Jacob was an unskilled laborer born of poor parents living on a farm. He was not a hard worker nor a dedicated husband or father drinking too much as documented by his numerous petty crime arrests, mostly for drunkenness and stealing.

Out of work too frequently, wife Catherine had enough of her aging Jacob packing up three of her four still at home daughters moving westward to Ohio where four of her sons (Alexander, James, Joseph & William) were already living. Initially settling in Summit County, it is believed two of the daughter and mom settled into Columbia County's town of Salem while thsons lived n Mahoning & Summit Counties.

Alexander, James, Joseph & William all signed recruting registrations to enlist into the Union Army. Three of the sons were mustered into military serve as evidenced by copies of National Archives military records. Josph eas declined for unknown reaqsons yet is documented as enlisting pursuant to ofical Mahoiniung County enlistment register.

Jacob is documented as being incarcerated in Cambria County's first jail or lockup (ALMHOUSE) which also was utilized as the County's homeless shelter after. His story & OBITUARY was published October 12, 1877 in Cambria County's Freeman Newspaper which copy was kept in the Ogline family bible.
