Guy Leonard Bechtold, 90, of Valley Brook Drive, Lancaster, PA, died on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, he was the husband of Lora Jean Long Bechtold, and they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 14th. He was the son of the late Jacob Bechtold and Clara Sherr Bechtold Hickey. His stepfather was the late Grover Hickey.

Guy retired after 36 years with RCA Corporation where he worked as an electrical designer. Before serving with the United States Navy during World War II, he taught radio technology and repairs for the former Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown. Guy built his own television set for his family and friends to watch. He loved his hobby with electronics, and considered himself an entrepreneur and an inventor. At one time, he worked at a television station in the Welsh Mountains. He enjoyed working at his shop at home and added woodworking to his many talents. With RCA, he developed several patents. Guy and Lora spent many years dancing with friends, and they both loved to go boating. After his retirement, they spent many winters at their home in Sarasota, Florida.

He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon, Elder, Superintendent of the Sunday School and served as a Teacher.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, David A., husband of Paulette R. Bechtold, Manheim, PA; two grandchildren; Joshua D., husband of Karina Bechtold and Jennifer N., wife of Philip Wiegand. He was preceded in death by a son, James "Jim" Bechtold in 1964; four brothers and five sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Guy's Life Celebration Funeral Service from Bethany Presbyterian Church, 25 North West End Ave., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM with The Pastor Laura C. Kelsey officiating. A luncheon will be served before going to Paradise Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 25 North West End Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603.
