She was born November 5, 1923, in Woodville, Idaho to Cecil A. Call and Rhoda Irene Casper Call. She was raised and attended schools in Woodville, Shelley and Rigby, graduating from the Rigby School District in 1941. She continued her education at Ricks College and played violin in the Ricks College Orchestra. Her musical talent helped her to give service to others through playing for funerals, church functions and other social occasions. After attending college for a year, she returned to Rigby and was employed at the Triple "A" office in the Rigby Courthouse.
On February 19, 1946, she married Melvin (Mick) Max Jordan in the Idaho falls LDS Temple. She, together with her husband, Mick, farmed in the Milo area and also had a large herd of dairy cows that they cared for for forty-nine years.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities, including chorister, Primary President, and girls camp director. Velma enjoyed her cats, gardening and keeping a beautiful yard; she especially loved her grandchildren and fondly gave them each a nickname, as she did her own children.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Irene (Tex) Winans of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Kent C (Marie) Jordan and Brad Reed (Laurie) Jordan, both of Milo; sister, Jean (Thomas) Frongner of Shelley; grandchildren; and great grandchildren, with two more on the way. She was proceded in death by her parents; husband, Mick; sisters, DeEsta Howell, Luetta Waite and Ora Ballard; and a brother, Elwood Call.
