Chadwick, George E (1) (16 Oct 1947) star Valley Independent

George Edward Chadwick was born December 19 1860 in North Ogden, Utah. His parents were Abraham Chadwick and Mary Ann Newley.
His boyhood and early manhood were spent in North Ogden. He married Emma G. Jones Mar 8, 1893 in the Logan Temple. To this union were born seven children: Lester, Pearl, Clarence, Delbert, Mary, Eva and an infant son who died at birth. His wife passed away May 18, 1911 and daughter, Mrs. Pearl Oakley in August 1921.
Three years later, on August 30, 1914, he and Ruby Leavitt Harrison were married, and to them were born two children, Velda and Don. By his second marriage he became stepfather to Kenneth, Louise and DeVerl Harrison.
November 2, 1900 Mr. Chadwick with his first wife and three children came to Star Valley in a wagon, entering through Tin Cup below Freedom. He bought a ranch in Osmond where tow of his brothers were living.
He was called to fill an L.D.S. Mission to the S9outhern States for two years beginning April 1, 1904. He had to leave his wife and four children at home to care for themselves while he preached the Gospel. While in the mission field his companions called him the "Iron Horse" because of his diligence and perseverance in preaching the gospel. He and his companion baptized 14 converts. He walked over 4000 miles while there. Typhoid and Malaria fever kept him bedfast for several months and his health has never been as good since that time.
He was the first Ward Clerk in the Osmond ward after it was organized. He served as Ward teacher, First Counselor in the Sunday School, and for 12 years as First Counselor in the Osmond Ward Bishopric.
He was a member of the School Board of Star Valley for eleven years, and helped develop the plans for the building of our present High school Building, and many of our district school houses. He was President of the Osmond Pipeline Co. for two years. For 17 years he was a member of the National Farm Loan Association board of star Valley.
He retired from the farm in Osmond about five years ago and moved to Afton. His health did not permit him to work very hard, but he enjoyed and kept an excellent garden and a flock of chickens.
He leaves an outstanding record of achievement in all church works and material affairs, and an honorable and accomplishe name for his family to magnify.
He died suddenly of a heart attack early Thursday morning October 18, 1947 at his home in Afton, at the age of 77. Funeral services were held Saturday October 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the South Ward chapel, under the direction of the Osmond Ward Bishopric with Clarence Taylor conduction.
The Processional music was furnished by Nada Joy Gardner at the organ.
The opening song was rendered by the South Ward choir:
"That Beautiful Land."
Prayer: Otto Harrison.
Vocal Duet: "Teach Me To Pray", by James Gomm and Ruth Swenson.
