She loved to serve, and do for others - preferring to work behind the scenes. she was a peacemaker. She was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and taught Primary for many years. She delighted in giving special love to babies born into this world. Hazel was a faithful visiting teacher for 75 years - we don't think she missed one month. She insisted on kneeling to pray. Sharing a heart-felt tear was as loved by her as was joining in with her spontaneous, hands-in-the-air laugh when she gave the story of "Rindercella." People loved to be around her. She was young at heart her whole life which was truly a blessing fulfilled. She married Wilford (Bill) Pierson on June 8, 1921, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They served together as Salt Lake Temple ordinance workers for 11 years before he died in 1975.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Howard Madsen, Sandy, Utah; a daughter, Betty Jo Mumford, Clifton, Idaho; a son, Lynn (Diane) Pierson, Hyrum, Utah; one brother, Owen Reynolds, Salt Lake City, Utah; and 14 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She has two great-grandsons currently serving missions.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband and parents, her brothers and sisters, her son-in-law, Gideon Eugene Mumford, her daughter, Beverly Louise Madsen, her grandson, Jeff Mumford, and her great-granddaughter, "Becket" Lee.
Viewings will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Webb Funeral Home, Preston, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, Feb. 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Ward LDS Chapel, 8650 S. 220 East, Sandy.
