She was born October 8, 1867 in Hart County, Kentucky to Mary Elizabeth Thurman Peterson and Peter Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Merkley Jr.

Interment was made in the Vernal Memorial Park, Vernal, Utah on May 2, 1950. Larkin Mortuary handled the funeral arrangements.
