Alice is the firstborn child to Peter Peterson and Mary Elizabeth Thurman. Her father had immigrated from Denmark with his family when he was a teenager. They settled in Cedar Fort, Utah. Alice's mother was born and raised in Kentucky and lived there during the American Civil War. She had a small daughter when Peter met her on one of his trips back to Winter Quarters to help the immigrant Saints who were coming to Utah.

Alice's siblings are Keturah, William Peter, Jesse Sern, James Ole, Christie Laura, David John, Samuel Thomas, Joseph Henry, and Franklin Hanson. After Peter and Mary married they lived in Cedar Fort, Utah for seven years and then moved to Ashley Valley on the eastern side of the state which later became Vernal, Utah. It was there that Alice grew into womanhood. She married William Albert Kone in Vernal, Utah on September 30, 1888. She was seventeen years old.

William and Alice became parents to eleven children: William Ray, Peter Clyde, Mary Afton, Ora Keturah, Jesse Albert, Jean Taylor, D Lloyd, a stillborn son, Blanche, John Harold, and Alice Fay. All of their children were born in the Ashley Valley (Vernal) area.

By 1920 the family had moved into Salt Lake City. By 1930 they had moved to Los Angeles, California. The two oldest sons, William and Peter, stayed in Utah. In 1957 Alice died at age 85, William died almost six months later.
