Funeral service for Alvina Jensen will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Rev. Joyce Tollefson Capp officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Alvina, 101, New Ulm, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Alvina was born October 8, 1906, in Kingsbury County, Lake Preston, SD, to Arne Boe Olson and Louise (Stenson) Olson. She married Marvin R. Jensen on November 1, 1931, in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple lived in Oldham, SD, until the fall of 1934, at which time they moved to their farm north of Walnut Grove, MN. They resided there until moving to New Ulm in 1962.

Alvina graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD, in 1929 with a teaching degree. She attended Mankato State Teachers College from 1956-62 and received a B.S. degree in elementary education on July 17, 1962. Alvina taught school from 1929-34 in Oldham, SD, from 1956-62 in Revere, MN, and from 1962-73 in New Ulm.

While living in Walnut Grove, Alvina first belonged to the English Lutheran Church and, later, Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the church's missionary program for many years.

After moving to New Ulm, Alvina became a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the New Ulm Square Dance Club and of Knuckleheads of Canada. In addition, she enjoyed reading, sewing and ballroom dancing.

Survivors include daughters, Gloria (Max) Olson Proctor, Lewiston, Idaho, and Gillaine "Jill" (Bob) Williams, Worthington, MN; one son, G. E. (Carol) Jensen, Frisco, CO; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband Marvin, her parents, 12 brothers and sisters, one grandson and one great-great granddaughter.
