Wilson was the son of Lewis Houston Cole and Lizzie Baulch. He first married Bertha Littrell in 1911. Family lore states that Lewis had warned Wilson against marrying Bertha as "she was not sturdy and wouldn't make a good helpmate. " As fate would have it, Bertha died shortly after giving birth to their first child in 1912, who also died. Nine years later, he would marry Georgia Nelson Davenport, and they would have three children.

The Pulaski Record July 2, 1941

The body of T. Wilson Cole, 60, Giles County farmer and assistant rural mail carrier, was found in his car on the Elkton Highway south of Pulaski at 8 o'clock Saturday morning. Sheriff Gordon Topp said two hours after the discovery that Cole, who suffered a paralytic stroke two years ago, apparently was the victim of another seizure.

The sheriff's office was informed of the death by a resident of the community where the body was found. A search had been started for Cole by his family after his failure to return home from a meeting he attended Friday night in Lawrenceburg.

Cole was a member of the Church of Christ and the IOOF Lodge. Surviving are his wife; three children, George W., Mary Ann, and Clara Reed Cole, Pulaski; five sisters, Miss Beulah Cole, Pulaski, Mrs. Russell Gilbert, Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Ray Davis, Lawrenceburg, Mrs. Anna Daniels, Prospect, and Mrs. Willie Sewell, of Giles County; and two brothers, Earl and Wilburn Cole of Minor Hill.
