FORMER DOLAND MAN BURIED TUESDAY.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church here for Ernest Leslie Coats who passed away early Friday morning at a Huron hospital. Rev. E. H. Jarman was in charge. Vocal music was by Richard Grann with Mrs. Arthur Boyd as as [sic] accompanist. Burial was made in the Doland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Clark Lawrence, Frank Austin, Chas. Thompson, Michael Heffernan, Warren Acker and Byron Wolverton. Those from a distance who attended the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Dell Paris, Earlville, Iowa; Mrs. Pearl Paris, Manchester, Iowa; Don, Frank and Russell Coats, Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Harry Wilkins, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. [sic] and Mrs. Dick Wessels and Dale Thorn of Huron, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Lestche, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Rowen, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Moriarity, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Martin[,] John Palmer and Norvie Palmer, all of Vayland, South Dakota and Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Houghtaling, Watertown.

OBITUARY
Ernest Leslie Coats was born October 23, 1881 at Delaware, Iowa, and passed away at Huron, S. Dak., March 12, 1948 at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 19 days.
He was united in marriage to Verona Jane Paris October 5, 1904. They made their home on a farm near Delaware, Iowa for two years then moved to Ashton, S. Dak., settling on a farm near there. In 1908 they moved to the community southwest of Doland. He was a resident of Spink county for thirty-seven years. In 1945 he purchased a ranch near Miller, S. Dak. and resided there with his son, Francis, until his death.
He leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Thomas of Mitchell, S. Dak., and seven sons: Leslie, Merle and Howard all of Doland, S. Dak.; Louis of Perry, Iowa; Maurice of Huron, S. Dak.; Francis of Vayland, S. Dak.: Ronald, a student at the University of kansas; two sisters and five grandchildren.
Deprived of the love and companionship of his wife when the children were young, he remained true to his obligation as a father. He maintained a home for his children as long as they needed it.
He was honest and industrious and was respected by a large group of friends who admired and enjoyed his cheerful disposition and friendly personality.
He had been a member of the LaDelie I.O.O.F. for many years.
