Mrs. Clarence Strong.

Katie Elizabeth, wife of Clarence L. Strong, passed away at the family home, two miles northeast of Fountain Green, in the early morning of June 4, 1913, aged 53 years, 3 months and 13 days. She was the daughter of Elliot [sic] and Elizabeth (Gardner) Alton, long-time residents of this community, and of whose immediate family there survive two brothers, Leonard and Mark Alton, and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Champlin and Mrs. Eliza Vincent. The subject of this sketch was born Feb. 21, 1860 at the old homestead in the near vicinity of which her entire life has been spent. On Jan. 25, 1881, she was united in marriage to Clarence L. Strong. Five children were born to them, Albert T., of Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. Ruby Bright, of near Blandinsville; Mrs. Grace Bright, of Fountain Green; and Earl S. and Gertrude, still at home. There are also two grand-children [sic], Jaunita [sic] Frances Strong and Vern E. Thompson. Never very vigorous, Mrs. Sirong [sic] has lately declined physically, but patiently and unmurmering [sic] did she meet the duties of life; so gladly and cheerfully did she engage in the industries of the home, interested and absorbed in the welfare of her family, that those nearest and dearest to her did not realize that she was not in normal health until she was stricken with pneumonia some ten days ago. So serious was the attack from its inception that medical skill was baffled. Mrs. Strong was a Methodist in belief and gave evidence of many worthy graces of mind and heart. She was thoughtful for the comfort of others, of self sacrificing [sic], cheerful and loving disposition. Her home was her realm and the full limit of her devotion was poured out upon its altar and the interests of her husband and children her first, last and chief concern.

Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon. Burial in Majorville cemetery.
