NELSON JAMES SHELL - OBITUARY (April 13, 1963, The Danville Bee, Virginia)
Nelson James Shell died unexpectedly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Burchett Mustain at 49 Carlson Ave., this morning at 7:30 am. Although he had been under a physician’s care for some time, he had not been terminally ill.
Aged 78 years, Mr. Shell was born Dec. 17, 1885, son of Harvey and Mary McCracken Shell. He was last employed as a loom fixer in the No -1-A Weave room at Dan River Mills. His wife, Mrs. May Warner Shell, died August 25, 1958. Besides Mrs. Mustain, he is survived by five other daughters: Mrs. Ann Maude Dillon of North Spray, N.C., Mrs. Caroline Crum of Danville. Mrs. Nannie Foster of Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Lizzie Hess of Spencer, and Mrs. Frances Bailey of Thomasville, NC; and one son, Charlie Shell of Danville. He also leaves two sisters, Nannie Kingdom of Roanoke, and Mrs. Emmie Smith of Danville; four brothers, Fletcher Shell and Pleas Shell, both of Danville, Henry Shell of Salem, and Steve Shell of Westover Hills; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Swicegood Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. James K. Wyne. Interment will follow in the Schoolfield Cemetery. The remains are resting at the funeral home, and the family will be at the Carlson Ave. residence.
