Arthur L. Matthews Dies at Hospital


Arthur Lawrence Matthews, 67, of 679 Peeples Street, S.W., retired auditor, died Friday in a private hospital. A native of DeKalb County, Mr. Matthews had been retired for the past eight years. He was a member of the Decatur First Methodist Church.


He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Bixler, Covington, Va.; seven sons, Dr. Warren B. Matthews, Decature, an Atlanta pathologist; Dr. Lawrence P. Matthews, Decature, an Atlanta obstetrician; Forrest F. and Kenneth H. Matthews, Atlanta; Dr. William A. Matthews, who is an intern in Augusta; Dr. Norman L. Matthews, Rochester, N.Y., former teacher of chemistry at Emory Univeristy, and Private Marion L. Matthews, with the Army overseas; a sister, Mrs. Lottie Matthews, Atlanta; a brother, Al Matthews, Atlanta.


Funeral plans will be announced by H. M. Patterson & Son.

Gravesite Details

The death year on the stone was originally 1877 then mistakenly changed to 1875 by a son. Arthur however was actually born in 1877.
