August "Gus" M. Meyer, age 83, a resident of Pierz, MN died November 1, 1996, at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held November 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Kenneth Brenny officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

August "Gus" Meyer was born October 28, 1913, in Agram Township, Morrison County, MN to the late Matt and Catherine (Brausen) Meyer. Gus spent all of his life in the Genola area. He farmed and for a few years south of Genola and later went to work for the Genola Grain Company, delivering the feed. He was united in marriage to Lena Janson on January 14, 1938, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. Lena passed away in 1955. He also owned and operated the Pierz Cafe for a few years. He was united in marriage to Susan Gerwing on August 25, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz. Susan passed away in 1988. Gus and Harvey Hoheisel purchased the Buckman Feed Mill. In the early 1960s he sold the Buckman Feed Mill and returned to work at the Genola Grain Company until retiring. He was united in marriage to Edna L. Malz on May 5, 1989, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa, MN. Gus enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, playing cards and taking care of the Genola baseball field. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz and the Pierz Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Edna L. (Malz) Meyer; daughters, Mary Hansmann and husband Lornie of Pierz, MN; and Sandy Brixius and husband Gordon of Buckman, MN; stepdaughters, Delores Weibel and husband Ken of Pequot Lakes, MN, Carol Peterson and husband Del of Belle Plaine, MN and Diane Koniarski and husband Larry of Belle Prairie; sisters, Catherine Janson and husband Leonard of Pierz and Eva Janson and husband Alfred of Pierz; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lena in 1955; wife Susan in 1988; son, Matt in 1939; sisters, Lena Diederich, Mary "Mae" Meyer, Margaret "Mag" Faust; brothers, Nicholas "Nick", John "Hans", Peter, Andrew, Matt, Joseph and Christ Meyer.

Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Hoheisel, Al Storkamp, Wilmer Malz, Ray Solinger, Rod Poepping, Henry Preimesberger, Richie Boser and Donald Waytashek.

Pallbearers were Kurt, Alan and Mark Brixius, Audrey Becker, Gail Young and Ceryl Hellickson.
