Catherine M. Janson, 85, a resident of Pierz, MN, died Dec. 22, 2001, at the Pierz Villa in Pierz.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 27 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating and Father Ken Brenny concelebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Catherine Marie Janson was born May 7, 1916, in Agram Township to the late Matthew and Catherine (Brausen) Meyer. She attended country school near Genola. Catherine was united in marriage to Leonard (Butch) Janson June 6, 1939. Together they farmed in Granite Township until March 1968. After moving to Pierz, Catherine owned and operated the Star Cafe for many years. She was a member of Christian Mothers, Pierz Commercial Club and was a Charter member of the Pierz Lioness. She also volunteered at the Pierz Villa.

Catherine is survived by three daughters, Diana Meyer and husband Harold of Pierz, Brenda Girtz and husband Jerry of Pierz and Cheryl Nies and husband Mike of Sartell; one son, Dale Janson and wife Fran of Pierz; one sister, Eva Janson of Pierz; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (Butch); her parents; eight brothers, Nick, John, Peter, Andrew, Matt, Joe, Chris and Gus Meyer; and three sisters, Lena Deiderich, Mary (Mae) Meyer and Margaret Faust.

Casketbearers were her grandchildren, Brian and Carmen Meyer, Angie and Kris Janson, Kalvin and Darren Girtz, Sean and Christopher Nies.
