Archie Custer Jones, eldest son of John R. and Etta M. Jones was born on a farm south of Ruskin, Nebraska on February 1, 1890 and departed this life at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 27 days. When a small boy, he moved with his family to a farm one mile west and one mile north of Nora. When he was ten years old his father died and he assumed the responsibility of trying to make a living for the rest of the family. His formal education ended when he was in the sixth grade as he took over more and more the duties of the farm.

On June 18th, 1913, he was married to Myrtle Estella Nickoles at Shickley, Nebraska. After managing a restaurant in Nora for two years, they moved to the old home place northwest of Nora where their three children, Winfred (sic), Boyd and Dean were born. There they lived until the spring of 1932. At this time the family moved to the residence east of Nora where Archie owned and managed a large farming and cattle feeding operation until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; his daughter, Winifred Shipherd of Nora; his son, Boyd of Edgar, Nebraska & son, Dean of Nora; two daughters in law, eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Newhouse of Torrington, Wyoming and Mrs. Clarence Reade of Bird City, Kansas and one brother, Elmer Jones of Nora and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.

Archie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nora and was honored as a pioneer shipper of livestock to the Omaha markets in 1965. Mr. and Mrs. Jones observed their 56th Wedding Anniversary last June. One of his greatest interests in the last few years has been the promotion of the Nora Rodeo in which he took intense interest and personal pride.

He was a man dedicated to peaceful co-existence with his family and community. He was firm in his belief that the earth, which he cultivated and nurtured for so many years, was the last outstanding memorial to all man's efforts. He maintained that there was dignity in independence, but was quick to offer help to those in unfortunate circumstances.

May God Bless his memory to the Comfort of his loved Ones.

Services were held Wednesday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Nora, Nebraska. Rev. L.A. Hansen and Rev. Maurice Holt were officiants.

Casket bearers were Lyndell Bargen, Bill L. Lynch, Don Gebers, Floyd Barnes, Neil Hansen, Kenneth Walters, Jerry Biltoft and Doug Muehlich.

Honorary bearers were Arthur Moran, Leonard Nelson, Garnet Phifer, Myrl Flickinger, Jack Wehrman, John Jacobsen, Bill Bach and Tony Simic.

Internment was in the Nora Cemetery.
