Etta Adams, daughter of John Quincy Adams, was born near McLean, Illinois, on October 22, 1865 (sic), and departed this life May 19, 1947, at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 27 days.

When she was 14 years old the family moved to Nebraska, traveling in a covered wagon, and settled in Thayer County where Shickley now stands, and later moving to near Carleton, Nebraska.

On October 18, 1883, she was united in marriage to John H. Bailey and to this union was born one child, Little (sic) Bailey Adrian. Mr. Bailey passed away in 1885. On April 11, 1889 she was united in marriage to Mr. John R. Jones. To this union were born six children, all of whom were present at the service except a daughter, Ina Jones Said, who with Mr. Said was killed in the Omaha tornado March 23, 1913. Mr. and Mrs. Jones lived near Ruskin until 1901, when they moved to the Nora vicinity, where Mr. Jones passed away in 1902.

At the age of 22, Mrs. Jones joined the Christian church at Belvidere, Nebraska, and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. She was always interested in her home and her children, and was ever ready to help them in their undertakings. Hospitality, kindness, and generosity were her outstanding qualities, and she spent many happy hours piecing quilts, of which thirty were given to her chidren, grandchildren, and friends. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, and a sincere friend, and will be greatly missed among her relatives and friends.

She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Adrian of Edson, Kansas, and Mrs. Vivian Reade of Bird City, Kansas; four sons Archie, Orvis, and Elmer of Nora, and Riley of Loveland, Colorado; four step-daughters, Ollie Wright of Ruskin, Mrs. Alma Thayer of Ruskin, Mrs. Effie Graver of Modesto, California, and Mrs. Amy Newhouse of Nelson. Two step-sons Louis and Ernie Jones preceded her in death. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Hartley of Hebron and Mrs. Mabel Foulks of Los Angeles, Calif.; and 38 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, and a host of friends.

The following poem was selected by Mrs. Jones to be used at the funeral service, and is typical of her life, and love for her family.

MOTHER WAITS FOR ME
You do not think of her as gone!
Her spirit lingers near.
I know she'll strive, as mothers do,
To make your pathway clear.
No matter where on earth you are,
At home, on land, or sea,
Look up and say as when a child,
"My mother watches me."
You think of her at dear God's throne,
From pain and sorrow free,
Her only care, her only prayer,
"Lord guide my own to me".
And when you work on earth is done
And Heaven's gate you see,
Look up and say as when a child,
"My mother waits for me."

The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, May 22, at two o'clock in the Nora Methodist church and were conducted by Rev. Mrs. C.V. Powell, pastor of the Nora church. She was assisted by Rev. J.W. Kennedy, pastor of the Nelson Disciples Church, who read the Scripture and offered prayer. Music was furnished by a quartet: Mrs. Clarence Crow, Mrs. Mabel Magee, Fred Stanley and George Thayer. Jesse Hamel sang a solo, "Beyond The Sunset". Mrs. Leslie Swigart presided at the piano.

The pallbearers were Waldean and Boyd Jones, Loren and Marvin Thayer, Calvin Wright and Rodney Newhouse. Interment was in the Ruskin cemetery.
