Mary Caroline McGee, daughter of Henry Hicks and Delilah Vickers McGee, was born January 29, 1858, in Stewart County, Tennessee. The fourth of eleven children; John Wesley, 1851-1853, and sisters Margaret, Rebecca Ann, then, and Mary Caroline. The next in order of birth: Emma, William Eldridge, Lavena, Lavesta, Navada, Thomas Wiley, and Lavona.
Henry Hicks their father, at the age of 21, had worked for himself, leasing land and chopping cord wood. He invested in land and soon had 1000 acres in the Standing Rock Creek area. He not only farmed but also had a grist mill, and was a blacksmith. He and wife Delilah raised nine of the children to adulthood. They lost the last child, Lavona at age seven. Before Henry's death, he deeded to each of his children a portion of his land.
At the age of 16 Mary Caroline married Wiley Stavely, December 24, 1874, son of Arthur C. & Ellinor Tomlinson, and grandson of Eli J. and Elizabeth Collier Stavely, and Thomas Elliott and Lane Cathy Tomlinson. Mary Caroline and Wiley had a son Thomas Herman Stavely, born February 7, 1881. Wiley died Feb. 10, 1896.
She married Clark Dillon May 11, 1896 and they had two children; Grace Dillon and Dudley Dillon. Grace Dillon married Enloe Pitt lived in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee, and they had five children; Dumas, Jack, Enloe Jr., Paul and Doris. Grace is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, in Paris, Tennessee. Dudley was mentioned in Lester Dillon's obit as living in Chicago.
