Victim, 67, of Drowning, Rites Held Friday:

Funeral services for Alvis W. Hill, 67, resident here for almost 30 years, were held Friday, October 3rd in the First Baptist church at 2:00pm, with the Rev. H. Glenn Discoe officiating. Burial was in Riverview cemetery and McCullough's Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Robert Black, Warren Bowman, Warren Anderasen, Don Mains, Wesley Mains and Clyde Priebe.

Mr. Hill drowned sometime during the night Monday, September 29, in the Iowa River at Iowa City. His body was found at 8:30am the following morning by passerby. Mr. Hill had been ill for about a year, had been receiving treatment at the University Hospitals. His death was termed suicide by Johnson County Coroner, Callahan.

Alvis W. Hill, son of Henry M. and Lizze B. Cox, was born May 4, 1891 in Indiana. He came to Algona in 1930 and was married to Mrs. Cora Bowman here December 5, 1934. He farmed for a while and was later employed by the City of Algona. He had been a night watchman at the city water plant recently.

He is survived by his wife, a step-son, Everett Bowman, Spirit Lake; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Dowd, Spirit Lake; and Mrs. Frank Loomis, Humboldt; a brother Everett Hill, Mason City; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Dransfeldt, Lone Rock and Mrs. Sarah Wise, Mason City.

His parents and first wife Adeline, who died in 1930 preceded him in death.
