Charles William Stoops, 63, veteran of WWI, was found dead at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on the Pennsylvania Railroad Co., right-a-way, east of So. Buena Vista St.
Dr. M.H. Koehler, Licking County coroner, said that death resulted from heart failure. He was stricken as he crossed over the tracks and had been dead a short time when found. Police were notified and investigated.
A resident of Newark a number of years he had been living at Buckeye Lake. Born Nov. 3, 1888, in Adams County, he has no known relatives.
The body is at the C.T. Egan & Son Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Services for Charles William Stoops, who died Wednesday, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the C.T. Egan & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth M. Lewis conducting the service. Burial will be made in Wilson Cemetery with a military service under the auspices of Newark Post American Legion.
The deceased, a native of Adams County, was the son of the late Jacob and Alice Stoops. He was a former lineman and a veteran of World War I. He served in the U.S. Army overseas after enlisting for service at Springfield, and was a member of Battery A, 324th Field Artillery. He was overseas from June 12, 1918 until May 22, 1919.
Three nephews survive: Harley Kaplinger of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Vincent Haler and Ernest Haler, both of Glendora, Calif.
My Note: Caplinger was spelled with a C, not a K, and his other nephew, Thomas Caplinger, who was not mentioned, also survived him. He had two nephews named Vinsonhaler, not Haler - but only one of them, Ernest Vinsonhaer, actually survived him. He was predeceased by the following nieces and nephews: Grace M. (Vinsonhaler) Wilson, Wendell U. Vinsonhaler by just 5 mos., Lulu Caplinger, Esco Caplinger, Irena (Caplinger) Myers, and James Caplinger.
