LAKE FIRE FATAL TO WOMAN, 72
Mrs. Charles Stoops, also known as Mrs. Rose Amy Jones, 72, of Thornville Rt. 2, died today at 9:15 a.m. from burns suffered when her Buckeye Lake home was leveled by fire at 2 a.m. yesterday.
The victim died at Newark City Hospital. She had suffered burns over her entire body.
The widow told Charles Boring, assistant Thornville fire chief that she made an attempt to get out of her burning home through a bedroom window, but that it was too high and was securely screened.
She told Mr. Boring that she then walked through two flaming rooms to get to a screened in porch where fireman found her.
Firemen could not prevent the cottage from being gutted by the fire, but were able to keep the flames from destroying another cottage only four feet away.
