Luther Manuel Edmonson, 84, of Athens, died Monday morning, Aug. 23, 2004, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
A native of Monroe County, he was a son of the late George C. and Bessie Stiles Edmonson, and was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Coleman Edmonson. He was a member of the Springtown Baptist Church and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired farmer and route carrier for the Chattanooga Times.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Ruth and Bobby Roberts of Sweetwater; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Johnny Edmonson, Calvin Edmonson, Lester and Robin Edmonson and David and Cherie Edmonson, all of Athens; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Edmonson of Athens; and one sister, Ruby Shell of Athens.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Leamon and the Rev. Bob Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
