Son of Thomas Abell & Mary Ridgell. He married Cecilia (Hickey) Plowden King on 27 Jan 1925.

Joseph Austin Ridgell died suddenly at his residence in Scotland, Saturday, Feb. 7, 1970 at the age of 66.

For the past two years, he served as past Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Maryland State Council of 'the Knights of Columbus in addition to being active in church and Boy Scout affairs.

He was the husband of Cecilia K. Ridgell and the father of: Mrs. Charles Titus, Mrs. Nelson Dean Jr., Thomas Gregory Ridgell, Mrs. Franklin Wolf Jr., James Austin Ridgell, Mrs. Edward Pratt, Eleanor Tippett, Mrs. George Norris, George Frederick Ridgell and Curtis Leslie Ridgell. Thirty-eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.

Sister Mary Canisius (Sister of St. Joseph in Hartford, Conn.), Mrs. Clara Pierce, Mrs. Reba Cooper, Mrs. Nita Bayne and Mrs.
Patricia Norris were his sisters.

The rosary was recited Monday, Feb. 9 at Robinson's Funeral Home at 7 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters. The family rosary followed at 8 p.m. A Con-celebrated (more than one priest participating) Funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, Feb. 10, 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Ridge. Assisting Father Phillip O'Shea in the Mass were Fathers Horrace McKenna (S.J.) and Father Christopher Twhoig. Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Those in attendance in the sanctuary were Fathers Francis Vieth, Michael Kidd, and John Peacock.
