John Lewis Hylton,53,of Rt-1 Raven Virginia was killed on the job at the Island Creek Virginia Pocahontas No.1 Mine

He was repairing an elevator shaft when apparently he slipped and fell down the shaft approximately 300ft. according to a Buchanan County Funeral Home spokesman

Born in Buchanan County Virginia he was a member of the UMWA Local 1509 and the Mountain Top Pentecostal Holiness Church

He was a veteran of the Korean War

He was a son of the late Isaac and Etta Rose Hylton

He was preceded in death by one son--Kelly Roger Hylton

Survivors include his wife--Annis Kathleen Keen Hylton

Three sons--Scotty Hylton of Cedar Bluff Virginia--Wayne Hylton and Steven Hylton both of Raven Virginia

Five brothers--Henry Hylton of Keen Mtn. Virginia--Leon Hylton of Red Ash Virginia--Elmer Hylton of Fort Ridge Virginia--Eugene Hylton of Beckley West Virginia and Billy Hylton of Raven Virginia

Two sisters--Madeline Hylton Deskins and husband Daris Matt Deskins of Ohio and Georgia Hylton Powers and husband Melvin Powers of Pineville West Virginia

One half-brother--Otis Hylton of Tazewell Virginia

One half-sister--Della Catherine Hylton Ferrell and husband Josh V. Ferrell of Raven Virginia

One grandson

Services will be conducted at two at the Glory Land Tabernacle Church with Rev. Johnny Smith and Rev. Charles Absher officiating

Pallbearers--Junior Clifton--Gus Vandyke--Zain Childress--Mike Cole--Danny Hylton--Wesley Hylton--Jimmy Keen and Ronny Joe Trent

Burial will be at the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill Virginia
