Clarence Nelson Young

Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church for Clarence Nelson Young, 83. Young was a revered member of the community, living her his entire life. He was born in Burns June 29, 1891 and married Zella Irving Young September 30, 1919 in Harney. Young was the Sheriff of Harney County from 1924 to 1929 and the only time he spent out of the county was when he worked in the shipyards in Portland during World War I. He passed away Saturday, August 24, 1974 at the Harney County Hospital.

Young is survived by his wife Zella of Burns; a son, Walter Irving Young of Portland; three daughters, Elizabeth Young Hudkins of Burns, Mary Yeteve Ackerman of Lakeview, and Alice Joyce Shonk of Yreka, California; one brother, George W. Young, Jr., Taylorsville, California; one sister, Hazel Dolphin, also of Taylorsville; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son preceded him in death.

Young was a charter member of the Burns Elk Lodge, a member of the Poison Creek Grange and the historical society, and a past member of the Eagles Lodge.

The Rev. Bob Dean will officiate at the services, with Pilar McCormick as organist and Helen Felt and Mary Graven singing duets. Active bearers will be Avel Diaz, Wally Welcome, Marcus Haines, Herb Fawcett, Darrell Howser, and Stan Bennett. Honorary bearers are Joe Fine, Cecil Bennett, Taft Miller, Pluribus Tiller, Howard Miller, and Eldon Stiz. Elks graveside services will be conducted. Donations in memory of Clarence Nelson Young may be made to the Burns Volunteer Ambulance Fund in Lieu of flowers.
