Joseph Young Buried Sunday
The funeral of Joseph H. Young, who ended his life with a rifle bullet in the head at his home in Taylorsville on Friday, March 5, was held in Taylorsville Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. Young, a commercial artist, had been despondent for some time over ill health and it is presumed that this was the cause of the act.

Joseph Harold Young was born in Burns, Ore. June 10, 1906. He spent his early childhood and grammar school days in Burns. He was a very apt puil and consistently ranked No. 1 in his class throughout the eight grades of grammar school. He attended Jefferson High School in Portland as a freshman, the Burns High School as a sophomore, and was graduated from Palo Alta High School in 1924. His chosen profession was commercial art and he served a five-year apprenticeship and two years journeyman as a "Ben Day Artist" in a commercial art establishment in San Francisco.

The last two years of his life were spent in Taylorsville, where he worked occasionally for wages, but for the main part devoting his time to sketching and landscape painting, for which he possessed considerable talent. His main hobby, other than art, was music, particularly the violin, which he played quite presentably. His chief pleasure, when in San Francisco, was attendance at music recitals by Kreisler, Heifetz and Yehudi Menuhedin.

Although his school days ended by graduation from high school, he possessed a universal liberal education. He read considerably and read selective literature. The books and articles he read pertained to such subjects as classical literature, history, economics, general science, medical science, psychology, art, and music. As a result of this intensive and extensive reading, he was able to converse learnedly and interestingly with various classes of people and on a large variety of subjects.

He was devoted to his family and friends, but was not demonstrative and often contrived to hid his devotion. His passing is a heartfelt loss to his family and friends and we believe a social loss to society in general. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Florence Young; four brothers, Clarence N. Young of Burns, Ore., William G. Young of San Francisco, James G. Young of Taylorsville, George W. Young of San Francisco; one sister, Hazel Bowerman of Taylorsville, all of whom were present at the funeral. Clarence N. Young of Burns, Ore. was accompanied by his son, Walter.
