Daughter of William Davis and Sarah Coulter and wife of Solomon Newman. Died in Anderson, Madison County, IN while visiting her daughter Edna Newman Wright. Solomon and Perthena were the parents of Sadie Sarahan, Roxy Ellen, Bert Lee, John O., Chelcy Lee, and Edna plus 4 other unknown children that died before 1897.

AGED WOMAN DIES ON VISIT IN CITY

Mrs. Perthena Jean Newman age 87, died yesterday at 8:15 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edna Wright, 2898 Raible avenue, following an illness of six months.

Mrs. Newman was born in Scioto county, O., and she moved to Richmond when she was a child. She was married there and resided there until twenty years ago. After that she lived in Terre Haute until April when she came to this city to visit the daughter. She became ill while here and could not be returned to her home. She was a member of the Richmond M. E. Church.

The body was removed to the Rozelle funeral home, and was returned yesterday to the home of the daughter. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Eighth Street Christian Church, Muncie. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, two miles east of Farmland.

Surviving besideds the daughter, at whose home she died, are two other daughters, Mrs. Sadie Sellers, of Terre Haute, and Mrs. Ella McConnel, of Muncie; three sons, Bert Newman of Terre Haute and John and Chelcie Newman, both of Muncie; one half-brother, John Davis, of Muncie; 28 grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
