She was born in Hancock County, WV, near Fairview/Pughtown/New Manchester, the daughter of Pleasant Upton (Thomas) Kessel and Mary Martin. She married Anthony Bischoff of the Bischoff glass company in Culloden, WV, near Milton.

Mrs. Lois Bischoff, 70, of 140 Smith St., Milton, died Wednesday morning at her home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a. m. at the [sic] [Our] Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Huntington by the Rev. James. F. Tierney. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Born Feb 12, 1901, in Manchester [sic: New Manchester, aka Pughtown], W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Martin Kessel. She was the widow of Anthony Bischoff, owner of the Bischoff Glass Co. at Culloden before his death in 1960. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frances Rule of Milton; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Allison and Mrs. Helen Pugh of Chester, W. Va.; a brother Kenneth Kessel of Steubenville, Ohio; two grandsons, Steve Rule of Milton and Tony Rule of Milton, and one great-grandson. Pallbearers will be Junior Blake, Ernest Murray, John Morris, Charles Windsor Jr., Sam Harshbarger, Roy Hollandsworth, Carl Seager and Clyde Hensley. The family suggests contributions be made to the church in lieu of flowers. Friends may call Thursday after 7 p.m. at Heck Funeral Home in Milton. The Rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
