He probably married Bridget GARVEY in the Doora Parish Roman Catholic Church – a parish thick with GARVEYS.
By 1834, he was a tenant farmer near Finlough in the Civil Parish of Tomfinlough a few miles North of Newmarket-on-Fergus. At the 1838 baptism in Newmarket-on-Fergus of Honor, John and Bridget were listed as residents of Ardsollus (Civil Parish of Doora) which was a 125 acre townland a few miles North of Newmarket-on-Fergus adjoining the Townland of Mooghaun North, Civil Parish of Tomfinlough, County Clare where John is listed in 1855 (Griffith's Taxables) as a tenant of Lord INCHIQUIN paying £1.10.0 on approximately 3 acres of farmland. Living nearby was John JR in partnership with in-laws: Mathias MCCORMACK and Michael MCCORMACK.
Most of the HEFFERNAN children emigrated to Cayuga Co. NY, Kewaunee Co. WI and Buchanan Co. IA.
