Thomas HEFFERNAN on 23OCT1852 in County Court of Cayuga County NY at Auburn renounced allegiance to Great Britain & announced his intention to become a U.S. Citizen probably in anticipation of owning land. On 12OCT1855, Timothy QUINN & Danne/Danny REGAN/RAGAN(See notes) swore that Thomas HEFFERNAN had been in the United States for at least five years & he was granted citizenship in Cayuga County Court.

He served as a witness to Roger HEFFERNAN's citizenship proceedings.

Witnesses at his 1848 wedding at Holy Name in Auburn, NY were: Michael GANING/GANSEY and Hanora LYNCH with Rev. Thomas O'FLAHERTY officiating.

Father Leo Bernard HEFFERNAN disclosed that in 1851, Thomas was farming in Cayuga County NY ‘one mile East of Scipio and a little to the South'. In 1868, he was one of the original founders of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Scipio where he died(as did wife, Eliz. Lynch d/o of John - See LYNCH #058-1).

He and Elizabeth LYNCH(1829-1909) are buried in St. Bernard's New Cemetery, Scipio, Cayuga Co. NY.
