John HEFFERNAN
c1818IRL-14JUL1895IRL

He married 27APR1843IRL Sara/Sarah O'NIEL

John HEFFERNAN c1818IRL-14JUL1895 and Sarah O'Neill(1828IRL-1908 d/o Pat) were married on April 27, 1843 at Newmarket-on-Fergus, County Clare, IRL. Their marriage was witnessed by Michael MCCORMACK and Mary REYNOLDS. They lived on a farm in Mooghaun North Townland.

In the Griffith's valuation in 1855, John Heffernan is listed as leasing from Lord INCHIQUIN(Lucius O'BRIEN) 35 acres at Mooghaun North in partnership with Matthias and Michael MCCORMACK.

Dan ZAHAREVITZ wrote in JAN2000: "…A cousin of mine visited Ireland a few years ago. He rented a car at Shannon airport and decided to spend some time trying to find the Heffernan farm a Mooghaun North. He was driving around and not getting anywhere when he came across an O'Neill's pub. He thought they might be somehow connected to Sarah O'Neill and at worst he could have a nice pint and be on his way. It turned out that the pub owners were related to Sarah O'Neill and knew exactly where the Heffernan farm was. My cousin went out there and found out that the last of the Heffernans living on the farm died a few years before. (Denis Heffernan's sons). They had sold their land to the neighbors, still the McCormacks after 150 years! The present McCormack's now run a bed and breakfast there. The old Heffernan farmhouse is still standing."

…John HEFFERNAN'S 1895 County Clare death record indicated that cause of death was heart disease and son, James, registered the death. Wife's 1908 death record noted that she was the widower of a labourer.
