WILLIAM HOWARD "Pete" CLAPP, b.1869, Scituate, MA, d.1935, Scituate, MA, a son of Elijah Thomas Clapp and Ann Rosini (Clapp) of Greenbush (Scituate), MA. His parents were fourth cousins.

Pete grew up learning about the businesses that his great grandfather, grandfather and father ran in Greenbush, across from Greenbush Pond. He continued to assist his father with the businesses after grand-father Elijah Clapp, Sr. died in 1888. On 11/29/1893 in Scituate Pete m: ANN "Annie" (WALLING), b.1877, Teignmouth, Devon, ENG, d.1967, Norwell, MA, daughter of immigrants George Walling and Harriet (Gent) of Teignmouth, ENG, and sister of Mary (Walling) who m: "Pete's" brother, Everett Clapp.

In 11/1898 the "Great Gale" swept through the Northeast, of which much is written. During the storm surge when it hit Scituate, Pete and his two brothers, Everett and Richard, were swept away from their bird hunting shanty on the South River in Marshfield. All three were swept away and almost drowned before washing ashore at a bridge in Marshfield and walked home to their very much relieved parents.

Pete and Annie lived next door to their siblings Everett and Mary (Walling) Clapp on Ford Place, near the corner of Country Way in Greenbush. Pete had inherited and took over the family businesses after the death of his father, including the role as miller of the grist mill across from the Pond. By 1922, the Town had to reconstruct Country Way and also needed to expand their public water system. Pete, having water rights to the Pond to run the grist mill, as had the Clapp and Stockbridge families for generations, turned over these water rights to the Town. At the same time, Pete gifted the grist mill and land surrounding it to the Scituate Historical Society, Pete being "the last miller of Greenbush".

Pete and Annie (Walling) had children:

--Frederick Howard "Fred" Clapp (1894-1976) who married Emily Gladys "Gladys" (MacBeth) of Brookline, MA.

--Randolph Walling Clapp (1896-1896), died of scarlet fever.

--Lois Harriet Clapp (1899-1972) who married Humphrey William Turner (1896-1972) of Norwell, MA).
