Cordelia Jane Boyer was a daughter of Catherine (née Hersperger) and Peter Boyer, born in 1834 in Frederick County, Maryland. Her mother died in 1837, and the following year her father married his late wife's elder sister, Mary Herring (née Hersperger). Thus, Cordelia's step-mother was her maternal aunt.

Cordelia Jane Boyer and George E. Thomas were married on 20 October 1857 in Frederick County. He died on 13 March 1861 (at the age of 36 years, 2 months and 2 days). The couple are not known to have had children.

Cordelia Thomas and Joseph Rhoderick were married in 1866 in Jefferson, Frederick County. (He was a widower, and had one surviving daughter from his first marriage.) Cordelia and Joseph Rhoderick were the parents of three children, and resided in Jefferson.

"Peter Boyer was married to Catherine Hershberger, a sister of Susan (Hershberger) Dare, the mother of Miss Lizzie Dare, of Jefferson, Md. The children of Peter and Catherine (Hershberger) Boyer are: 1, Jesse, died in Middletown, Md., September 20, 1893, aged seventy-two, his widow Mary Elizabeth (Pine) [sic; Paine] Boyer is still living; 2, Ezra, died in Missouri, in 1904; 3, Wilson, died in California; 4, Greenberry, died in youth; 5, Mary C. (Mrs. Daniel Arnold); 6, Cordelia, widow of James [sic; Joseph] Rhoderick; 7, E-----, resides in Texas; 8, Henry, of Colorado. Mrs. Boyer died in 1844 [sic; 1837]. Mr. Boyer's second wife was Mary Hershberger, a sister of his first wife. Peter Boyer died in Jefferson, Md., in 1860 [sic; 1864]."
