Willis Haley was employed as a plumber in Hot Springs before joining the US Army in January, 1918. He returned to Hot Springs in April, 1919 after serving with distinction on the fighting front in France and later spent five months with the American Army of Occupation on the Rhine.

Willis never married, and had no children. He died as the result of injuries he received as a passenger in an automobile accident on the Little Rock-Hot Springs Highway.
