Sam was born in a coal camp at Helen West Virginia. After graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia he enlisted in the US Army serving three years. He then attended University of Washington in Seattle Washington obtaining a BSEE degree. He worked in the coal mining field, aerospace industry, architectural and design field. He loved to farm. After moving to Virginia he picked up hiking and camping with many, many miles hiked on the trails of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, the Appalachian Trail. He was unique and will be missed terribly.
