Violet E. Whitesell, 84, formerly of First Street, Meadville, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Born April 1, 1923, in Clarion County, she was a daughter of Orval and Ruth Courson. She was married to Ward W. Whitesell for over 50 years; he preceded her in death on June 14, 2007. She retired from Talon, where she was the first woman to be in product control. She enjoyed traveling to Kissimmee, Fla. every winter. She was a former member of Milledgeville Presbyterian Church. She was involved with activities at Active Aging Inc. Survivors include one daughter, Christine Pettigrew of Jamestown; three grandchildren, Kristian Moyer and her husband, Shaun, William Reese and Brandy Pettigrew; four sisters, Jean Kellogg of Kennsburg, Colo., Ruth Bailey of Cochranton, Helen Altman of Clarion County and Flo Hamilton of Meadville; and one brother, Glenn Courson of Meadville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Ernest and Orville Courson; and five sisters, Nellie Neupert, Ethel Linberg, Beatrice Mays, Adaline Reznor and Edna Eddy. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home Inc., 614 Baldwin St., Meadville. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. William J. Rudge of The Bill Rudge Ministry officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Cordia Commons Activity Fund, 455 Chestnut St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
