Obituary
Mrs. Louise Schmidt was born in Graefenhainchen (sic: Grafenhainichen), Saxony, August 2, 1824. In '57 she with her husband, imigrated to America and settled on a farm near Chatham, Ill., where sixteen years ago she was left a widow. In '91 she came to Iowa with her son Gotthold S., making her home mostly with her daughter, Mrs. Rev. Schliepsiek. Mother Schmidt was truly a mother in Israel, strong in faith, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer. Above all things she loved the habitation of the house of the Lord and the place where His honored dwelleth. The word of her God was unto her better than thousands of gold and silver, and her meditation all the day. Especially in her last long illness she found consolation in the promises of the gospel of Jesus, which hold out salvation and eternal life to all that believe. On Sunday evening, March 31, ult. her course was finished and she went to sleep peacefully. Last Tuesday her earthly remains were laid to rest in the Pomeroy cemetery, Rev. Zuerrer, of Fort Dodge, preaching an eloquent sermon on the words of Paul: "For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him." Mother Schmidt leaves eight children, 27 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. "The memory of the just is blessed."- Prov. x, 7.
