ABNEY, John C. Sr., age 82, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Bethesda North Hospital.
John was an Army veteran. He retired after 20 years of service making steel barrels.
Along with his wife, John played in a country western band called the Country Ramblers, where he played the bass guitar and his wife sang. He also enjoyed singing karaoke and spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. When he was younger, he liked to fish and work on cars and motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rupard and Verlie Abney; five brothers Gene, Rupard Jr., James, Roy, and Forest; and two sisters Rahama Sidwell and Georgia Watts. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia; son John C. (Shirley) Abney Jr.; daughter Theresa Gamble; grandchildren Thomas White, Carissa (Steve) Roepke, and Rachele Fox; six great grandchildren Manny, Dylan, Lucas, Taylor, Kenzie, and Cadence; one brother Charles (Juanita) Abney; and one sister Virginia Browning.
