Richard William Sr. "Bro," Branch departed this life December 27, 2008. He was born July 25, 1923 in Richmond, Va., to the late Howard and Annie Branch, and was one of 10 children of that union, five boys and five girls.

Richard leaves to mourn his passing his devoted sister, Rose Gibson (Frank), as his brothers and other four sisters preceded him in death.

After graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in WWII and received an honorable discharge. Several years later, Richard married Maggie Carolina on February 12, 1948, to whom he was married for 59 years. She preceded her beloved Richard in death. Out of their union were three children, Carolyn B. Hunter, widow of Rev. Derwood O. Hunter, Richard W. Branch Jr. (Jean) and Alphonso H. Branch. Richard was the grandfather to 11 grandchildren. Richard also leaves to mourn two sisters-in-law, Marian Branch, widow of James Branch, and Louise Branch, widow of Lorenzo Branch; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
