Mr. Shelton was retired from Entergy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Buras Masonic Lodge #422 F&AM and Union Grove Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris R. Shelton; his second wife, Lauren M. Shelton; his parents, James Rufus Shelton, Sr. and Mary Ann Davis Shelton; and two brothers, James R. Shelton, Jr. and George Shelton.
He was survived by five stepdaughters, Norma Hunter and husband Karl of Belle Chasse, Susan Quimby of Belle Chasse, Lisa Lowe and husband Kevin of Nairn, Susan Simoneaux and husband Bruce of Empire, and Charlene Stewart of Gretna; two sisters, Lorene Morrill of Montgomery and Dorothy Hensley of Bowie, AZ; four brothers, Richard Lee Shelton of Elm City, NC, Gordon Shelton, Sr. of Walker, Carol W. Shelton of Montgomery and Harold Shelton of Woodville, TX; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
