This is the best hypothesis I am able to make regarding the burial place of Joseph Thacker. I know that there are scads of unmarked, subsided graves in the Thacker cemetery, and many marked with fieldstones. I also know Joseph was a "Primitive Baptist," although there are some in his family who were Episcopalians. I know that some in his family did not want gravestones, an old Baptist custom. I put more weight on a Thacker cemetery burial than a burial next to his father, Reuben Thacker Jr., in Lawrence County, Ohio. Those buried in Ohio are descended from Reuben's wife, Pamelia/Permelia Murphy Thacker. Family members from Reuben's second wife seem to be buried in the Thacker Cemetery in Centerville, Wayne County, West Virginia, which appears to have many, many unmarked graves, or graves only marked by fieldstones.

Inscription

If not under a fieldstone, the grave is unmarked, which I strongly suspect due to Joseph's religious beliefs.

Gravesite Details

If not under a fieldstone, the grave is unmarked and subsided, one of many in the Thacker cemetery, which I strongly suspect is due to Joseph's Baptist religious beliefs.
