LOGAN (Special)—One of the oldest citizens in Utah will celebrate her 100th birthday annlversary in her home in Logan Saturday.
She is Mrs. Lucy S. Cardon, 109 E. 1st North, who will be honored by her family and friends with a reception Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. It is expected most of her family will be present.
Mrs. Cardon still has an active mind, though she now is hard of hearing. Her greatest pleasure is reading the Bible and the newspapers and she likes to have her children visit often with her. She lives with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Rechow.
The family plans to place 100 candles on the front porch of the residence during the reception, to which all of Mrs. Cardon's friends and relatives have been invited.
"I am really excited about my 100th birthday anniversary party," Mrs. Cardon said Thursday.
She came to this country when a young girl from England with her parents, Thomas X. and Lucy Gurney Smith. They came almost directly to Utah, where she has lived since. She was born in England, Jan. 5, 1852. She married Thomas B. Cardon, Nov 13,1871, in the Salt Lake Endowment House, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He died several years ago.
Mrs. Cardon, who is in good health, has recovered completely from a leg fracture suffered about a year ago.
She has four sons and three daughters: Mrs. Gretta Rechow, B. T. and O. Guy Cardon, Logan; Ariel F. Cardon, Palo Alto, California; P. V. Cardon, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Edna Langton, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Clair Sullivan, Los Angeles, California. She also has 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild.
