William McCartney was the son of William C McCartney, Sr., and Margery. He married Nancy Egbert, the daughter of the Rev. Paul Egbert, on 08 Mar 1833 in St. Joseph Co., Ind. He was the father of Eliza Jane (McCartney) Gilbert and Hiram M McCartney. In the 1840 census in St. Joseph Co., Ind., he is listed as a Learned Professional Engineer. He died before 1846 of consumption/TB.
