HARTFORD - Clyde Shafer, 83, formerly of Hartford, died Saturday at Prineville, Ore.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.

Mr. Shafer was born March 28, 1909, in Hartford. He was a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include: his wife, Camille; three sons -Brian of South Bend, Ind., Clayton of Tucson, Ariz.; Phil of Dallas; two daughters- Mrs. Lee (Darla) Weeden of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Dale (Avis) Hill of Hartford; three stepdaughters -Mrs. Lyle (Doris) Rorick of Prineville, Mrs. Kenny (Kay) Sweats of Simi Valley, Calif, and Mrs. John (Marcia) Shafer of Chicago; one stepson, Ron Docktor of Simi Valley, 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters - Verva Avery of Stevensville, Faye Coburn of Benton Harbor and Helen Dunning of Coloma. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby, in 1972.
