Funeral for Mrs. J. L. Durham Will Be Held Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Joab L. Durham, 77, who died suddenly at her home in Atlanta Tuesday night, will be held at the Sardis Baptist Church Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Services will be in charge of Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield and Rev. Fogleman, pastor of the Atlanta Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Sardis cemetery. Mrs. Durham, the former Delia McIlwain, and her husband are descendants of two of the oldest families of Winn Parish. They have been identified with the religious, educational and civic life of Winn parish for more than sixty years, and on November 29, 1947, they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at their home with nine of their ten children and a host of relatives and friends present. Mrs. Durham has been affiliated with the Baptist Church since the age of 11. At the time of her death she was active as a leader in the Baptist Adult Union.
Surviving are her husband; six sons, Nathan Durham, Natchitoches; Charlie and Clarence Durham, Atlanta, Crosby Durham, El Dorado; F. M. Durham, San Diego, Calif.; Joe Durham, Charlotte, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Shofner, Natchitoches; Mrs. P. E. Ballard, Coushatta; Mrs. R. K. Self, Cotton Valley; Mrs. Louis Kolb, Winnfield; and one sister, Mrs. Marion Melton, Winnfield.
