Alvin "Al" Sanders 88, was born in Venus Arkansas to Marion & Martha Sanders, the youngest of nine children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He moved to California at 18 months old and lived in varies areas until returning to Arkansas in 1946 where he met Elizabeth (Betty) Hedrick who soon became his wife when they eloped on December 14, 1946. They returned to California and five years later Al was inducted into the Army and served in the Korean War. When he returned they lived in various towns in the Central Valley before settling in Modesto in 1963 and was currently living in Hughson. Al worked in the food industry for many years as a bread truck driver for Blue Seal Bread and finally Save Mart Supermarkets for 16 years.

Al was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Martha, and his brothers and sisters Elva, Denton, Denver, Jewell, Ewell, Rex, Fred, and Ike. He is survived by his Wife of 68 years Elizabeth Sanders of Hughson, Daughters: Kristen (Mark) Thompson of La Grange, and Jan (Mark) Yaeger of Oakdale, Grand Sons: Casey Stone of La Grange, Jesse Stone of La Grange, and Jon Yaeger (Lynnessa Cook and son Everette Hanely) of Modesto.

Al was a member of Masonic Lodge #395 of Turlock for 64 years. Al had a huge passion for playing golf. He loved all sports and watched golf, football, baseball, and basketball whenever he could. He was very energetic and enjoyed exercising daily. Al had a very distinctive deep voice and a great dry sense of humor. He was a deeply loving, caring and honest man and a devout Christian and will be greatly missed.

Services will be held Monday, October 5th at Lakewood Memorial (Heritage Chapel) 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA with the viewing at 9:00 AM and funeral services and burial at 10:00 AM. Following with a Celebration of His Life at Samaritan Village, 7700 Fox Rd., Hughson, CA, at 12:00 PM.
