Rex Fines Sanders, 76, of Modesto died Monday at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital.

Mr. Sanders was a native of Madison County, Ark. He had lived in Modesto since 1943. He was a superintendent of pumps for Modesto Irrigation District from 1945 to 1983.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Berniece M. Sanders of Modesto; children, Gary Sanders and Dennis Sanders, both of Modesto; brothers, Isaac Sanders, Denton Sanders and Denver Sanders, all of Harrison, Ark., Alvin Sanders of Modesto and Ewel Sanders of Fortuna; a sister, Jewel Rouse of Hot Springs, Ark.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson. Visitation will be held at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.
