Salem E. Newlin:

Salem Elijah Newlin "66," of Opequon, Va., died early this morning, at his home, after a long illness. He was born in Frederick Co, Va., on Nov. 15th, 1892, the son of the late William Reese Newlin and Margaret (Cooper) Newlin. He was the husband of the former Mary Virginia (Lowery), whom he married on April 4th, 1916, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Mr. Newlin was a farmer, for a number of years, in the Opequon section of Frederick Co, Va. Those surviving besides his wife; are three (Daughters) Mrs. Grace (Newlin) Pitcock, Mrs. Margaret V. (Newlin) Hewitt, and Mrs. Lena C. (Newlin) Wisecarver - all of Frederick Co, Va; and three (Sons) Floyd Newlin, of Stephen's City, Va; Raymond A. Newlin, and Roy N. Newlin both at home; and 18 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home. (Noted) Salem's Funeral services at Jones Funeral Home was held by Rev. Robert C. Bradford Jr., and the pallbearers were: Marvin D. Boone Sr., James C. Lawyer, Percy C. Heishman, Vernon White, Arthur G. Smith, and Elmer Ruckman. The interment was held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Winchester, Frederick Co, Va.

(My added note): My mother (Sandra Fay NEWLIN Brooks-Wilson) said when she was little, that she always used to walk around her Newlin Grandparent's farm, and watch her grandpa Salem work on the farm, and work with his horses, so she would follow him around and asked him "What are you doing, Grandpa?" Or, "What's that for, Grandpa?" She said my Great-Grandfather Salem was a very quiet, hard working man, who later in life suffered from severe painful crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis, that his poor feet and toes would kill him so much, that he just stayed inside the house "the year before he died," because she said he was always in so much pain, bless his heart.
